Welcome to SmartBudget ("we," "our," or "us"). We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and related services (collectively, the "App").
The primary purpose of SmartBudget is to help you categorize your transaction history and build a budget. To do this, we require access to your financial data.
We collect information that identifies, relates to, or could reasonably be linked to you.
A. Information You Provide to Us
Account Data: Name, email address, and password when you create an account.
Profile Data: User preferences, budget goals, and custom categorization rules you set within the App.
B. Financial Information (via Stripe Financial Connections) To provide our budgeting services, we use Stripe Financial Connections to securely connect to your bank accounts, credit cards, and other financial institutions.
Read-Only Access: We only request and receive read-only access to your financial data. We cannot move money, make transfers, or alter your account details.
Data Accessed: Through Stripe, we access your account balances, account routing information, and transaction history (including merchants, amounts, and dates).
Credential Security: We never see, collect, or store your bank login credentials (such as your bank username or password). This authentication is handled entirely by Stripe and your financial institution.
C. Automatically Collected Information
Device and Usage Data: IP address, device type, operating system, and data on how you interact with our App to help us improve performance and user experience.
We use the information we collect strictly to operate, maintain, and improve SmartBudget. Specifically, we use your data to:
Aggregate and categorize your financial transactions.
Generate budgeting insights, charts, and financial summaries.
Provide customer support and respond to your inquiries.
Ensure the security and integrity of our App.
We do not and will not sell your personal or financial information to third parties. We do not use your financial transaction data for targeted advertising.
We only share your information in the following limited circumstances:
Service Providers: We share necessary data with trusted third-party vendors who perform services on our behalf, such as cloud hosting (e.g., [AWS/Google Cloud]) and our financial data aggregator, Stripe. You can read Stripe's Privacy Policy to understand how they handle your data.
Legal Requirements: We may disclose your information if required to do so by law, court order, or governmental request.
Business Transfers: If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
We implement industry-standard security measures, including encryption in transit and at rest, to protect your personal and financial data. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your information, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure.
We retain your personal data only for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with the App's services.
Your Controls:
Disconnecting Accounts: You can disconnect any linked bank account or credit card at any time within the App's settings. Once disconnected, we will immediately stop receiving new transaction data for that account.
Account Deletion: You have the right to delete your SmartBudget account at any time. Upon deletion, we will wipe your personal information and transaction history from our active servers, subject to legal and operational retention requirements.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal obligations. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new Privacy Policy within the App and updating the "Last Updated" date.
